I think Obama's greatest failure this year is allowing his campaign to lack what won him the election in 2008: hope. He has been fighting a defensive war rather than playing an offensive campaign. The debate was a reflection of this mistake. Romney attacks what Obama has done in the past and Obama spen his time and effort defending his previous actions instead of explaining what he would do in the next 4 years. Defending his actions is necessary as the incumbent but does nothing to inspire the disillusioned youth who had such high hopes four years ago.
Gallup recently published a poll which showed that his strongest age group of support -- voters 18 to 29 -- strongly favor Obama over Romney, but only 56% say that they will definitely vote. Meanwhile, the older voters -- especially voters 65 and older -- strongly tilt towards Romney, and 86% of these voters say that they will vote.In 2008, Obama inspired a record number of youth voters. Some attribute his success largely to the youth voters. But this year youth are the least likely to vote in the upcoming election. Obama needs to once again remind youth why they voted for him and what his vision for America is.
As for everyone else.. Youth, get out there and vote. If you're at college, get an absentee ballot. It's not that hard. Stop being lazy and grow up. The future depends on our voices and our votes. It would be a shame for them not to be heard because we are the group that will be most affected by the course America takes.
So wake up and vote for what you believe in.
